Zaporozhye State Medical University
Zaporozhye state medical university is a self – governing,modern,multiprofile higher educational institution of the IVth top level of accreditation. The university is a centre of training MD, Masters of Phramacy and bachelors for Ukraine and foreign countries. Its history goes back to the higher women courses organized in Odessa 1903. In 1921 the courses were reorganized into checmical – pharmaceutical institute. In 1959 it was transferred from Odessa to Zaporozhye.
In 1994 it got the status of ZAPOROZHYE STATE MEDICLA UNIVERSITY, the main objective of which is training of highly qualified practitioners and establishing mutually beneficial relations with the research institutes of Ukraine and foreign countries. It is one of the oldest medical higher educational institutions the system of medical education of Ukraine.It has gained authority and recognition by training foreign citizens from Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, USA and Canada for more than 40years. More than 3500 specialists have got medical and pharmaceutical education and are working now in more than 100 countries of the world, taking up high positions in the public health systems of their countries.

Zaporozhye State Medical University takes one the first places in the system of higher medical education of Ukraine with the number of foreign students being trained there. Training of foreign citizens has been carried out at ZSMU since 1973. More than 50000 foreign citizens from 101 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and America have been involved in different forms of study. Over 10500 foreign students completed training in different specialties and got diplomas. Thirty-six foreign graduates undertook post-graduate courses and successfully defended theses. Since 2002 foreign students have been taught in English.
The system of training at Zaporozhye State Medical University includes premedical, undergraduate and postgraduate periods of study. The premedical education is provided at the International Faculty No.1 and then foreign students continue studies at the International Faculty No.2.
The training of foreign students and their specializations is carried out in the following specialties:
- General Medicine. MD. Period of study is 6 years.
- Pediatrics. MD. Period of study is 6 years.
- Dentistry. MD. Period of study is 5 years.
- Pharmacy. Master of Pharmacy. Period of study is 5 years.
- Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations. Master of Pharmacy. Period of study is 5 years.
Junior students are trained at the theoretical departments in the academic buildings situated on the territory of the campus. Senior students are trained at the clinical departments in clinics situated near the University.
Zaporozhye State Medical University is one of the few medical universities in the system of higher medical education in Ukraine that has its own training-scientific centre "University Clinic" in which practical classes are conducted and medical aid is delivered. The University has the unique equipment:computer tomographs, devices for ultrasonic diagnosis, angiographic and endoscopic checkup, radioisotope diagnosis and many others to conduct fundamental and applied scientific investigations.
Post-diploma education includes training in the internship, training for Master's degree, clinical studies, postgraduate courses in 29 medical specialties and refresher courses for doctors and pharmacists.
ENROLLMENTS OF FOREIGN STUDENTS
A foreigner or a group of foreigners are admitted to the University if they have a special invitation given by the University authorities through the foreign agents or a firm. The following documents are required for the admission to the University.
- The invitation of the University.
- Diploma (certificate) of graduating from the Preparatory faculty or from a higher educational institution.
- Original or legalized copy of documents about education (secondary, higher) certified by the notary with indications of subjects and examination grades on chemistry, physics, biology with notarized translation into ukrainian or Russian.
- Birth certificate (legalized copy with notarized translation into ukrainian or Russian)
- Legalized medical certificate of absence of medical contraindication for living in Ukraineand studying at the Medical University. It must be given to a student by the official medical institution in his native country no later than two months before the enrolment for studies
- Medical certificate of absence of HIV-infection. In case of the certificate absence a foreigner must be examined for HIV-infection at his own expense in time

Zaporozhye State Medical University looks like a student campus. Trees, bushes and lawns surrounding the campus, the picturesque banks of the largest river of Ukraine - the Dnieper - promote a favourable climate and conditions for creative studies. Student campus is a detached territory protected by a specialized guard for 24 hours. The teacher's duty is organized in the hostels. The campus and hostels are equipped with the means of video surveillance and control. ZSMU has organized the lighting of adjacent territories at its own expense. The patrolling of the University campus and adjacent territories is conducted by the university guide with the assistance of the police.
There are 5 academic buildings, 5 hostels, scientific and belletristic literature libraries with reading halls and computer rooms, a beauty studio, medical centre, student's sanatorium-dispensary, sports centre, courts and stadium, some canteens and cafes, Internet cafe on its territory. There is a canteen at the University with Indian cuisine which is very popular with foreign students. 5 student hostels of the University accommodate about 3000 persons; three of them are for foreign citizens. The hostel buildings are of a modern block type and consist of the rooms for 1-2-3 persons with all the conveniences. There are Internet halls in the hostels for foreign citizens. The rooms of the hostels have access to the Internet. There are Indian cultural centre and computer class in hostel No. 1.
Zaporozhye State Medical University is situated in the south of Ukraine in the historical center of Zaporozhye Cossacks, the city of Zaporozhye.The population of Zaporozhye is about 1 million people. Zaporozhye region is located in the maritime - steppe zone: summer is hot (an average temperature is +20, 7° - +23.6°, winter is mild (an average temperature is - 4°).Zaporozhye is a large industrial, scientific and cultural centre. It has 8 higher educational institutions and many colleges. It is a centre of metallurgical industry, aircraft engines production and instrument-making industry. There are all necessary facilities for comfortable life of students in Zaporozhe:

Annually all students irrespective of their health have compulsory preventive check-ups and examinations and sick persons receive treatment both at the polyclinic and in the best clinics of the city. The diagnostic complex is represented with a clinical biochemical laboratory, a functional diagnostic division, a room for endoscopic examination and X-ray room. The department of physiotherapy and rehabilitation fulfils an important work in the process of treatment. The leading medical specialists of the Regional Clinical Hospital provide for the consultative assistance. All students get a regular complex of preventive inoculations. There is a medical unit on the territory of the University where students can get a qualified premedical and medical assistance in acute and urgent pathologic conditions. Qualified specialists - the University workers - give regular consultations here.There is a student sanatorium-dispensary in the campus, too. Students can take physiotherapy treatment there.
AMATEUR ACTIVITIES AND SPORT
The University has good sport facilities. Physical training classes are conducted in accordance with academic curriculum for the 1-6 years of study. There is a unique sport complex at the University. Not far from the academic buildings and student hostels there is a stadium with track and field sectors, football field, sports grounds for handball, mini-football, volleyball, basketball. The University has three gyms, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a shooting-range, chess and draught club, fitness club. Students are involved in different sports groups.
Student's football matches take place regularly at the university There is a students' club at the university. Different circles of amateur activities are organized there for those who like to play musical instruments, sing and dance. A lot of festivals are held at the University. Among them there are the festival of student's creative work "The Autumn Rhythms", exhibitions "My Hobby", contents "Talents, you are welcome on the stage!", "Miss ZSMU", performances on the eve of the New Year, aerobics balls "Spring swallows", team competitions of JQC (Jolly and Quick-witted Club), festivals of international friendship, literature evenings and many others.
V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University
The Medical course at the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University takes six years and leads to MD (Doctor of Medicine) or MBBS. In the under graduate program, during six years of study the students learn different subjects from fundamental subjects disciplines to special medical subjects. Admission to the medical faculty takes place after signing a contract. Foreigners study in group of seven to twelve students. The second year students attend their clinical studies where they can gain experience in nursing the patients. Clinical subjects are taught beginning from the third year of study. Students can study any topic of interest and to rise of their knowledge in the departments. All six years of the program are important and all must be passed successfully before students are permitted to graduate.
The medium of instruction in the Medical faculty is English language. The Ministry of education and Ministry of Public health Ukraine approved the curriculum of the medical faculty of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Most of the countries accept the V. N. Kharkiv National University’s degree.

In 1922 the Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy (DSMA) organized and edited two scientific medical journal: "Ekaterynoslavsky Medical Journal" and "New Surgical Archive". Ternopil State Medical University
Ternopil State Medical University is the only and first one in Ukraine which developed the collaboration with American school and started American Nursing School where our students are studying with the corriculum of American Nursing School. Ternopil State medical University collaborates with The University of South Carolina for students academic excahngeprogrammes for the student of Nursing faculty . Now Ternopil State Medical University has Americal Nursing School and International Nursing School. The students from USA, UK, Germany and other western European countries are also studying there.
The Nursing school schools trains in two:
1) Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)- 2 years programme
2) Bachelor of Science if Nursing (BSN)- 4 years programme (or two years for those who already have nursing degree)
