In 1996, Odessa National Medical University was the first University of Ukraine that started providing medical education in English as a medium of instruction.
Having been established in 1900, the University has a rich history. Back then, it was established as the medical faculty of the Novorossiysk State University in Odessa. Soon, it became one of the most prestigious medical faculties in the entire Russian Empire. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was renamed as Odessa State Medical University in the independent Ukrainian Republic.
Its esteemed faculty includes world-renowned scientists and the founders of medical schools who brought glory to the world of science. Some of them were Prof. Voronin V.V., Prof. Verigo B.F., Prof. Boggomolets O.O. and many more.
Odessa National Medical University received the fourth level of accreditation enforced by the State Accreditation Committee of Ukraine in 1994. The university is now one of the tops WHO recognized Universities in Ukraine. It is not only known for its quality education but is also popular as an institute that offers premium education within a reasonable budget.
ONMU is a member of the Bologna process (Single European area of Higher Education) and the only member of MEDICINE (Medical Education in Europe). In 2005, the University was awarded a medal by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine & National Academy of Sciences in Ukraine for the development of a modern model for teaching English speaking students.
The University comprises of 56 departments, a medical college, preparatory faculty, and post-graduation faculty. Every year it enrolls about 4,000 students out of which 1,200 are international students from over 52 countries across the globe.
Well-equipped classrooms with modern infrastructure are one of the major advantages of the University. It has separate laboratories for students to have a better practical understanding.
The university houses an experienced faculty to ensure the availability of quality education to the enrolled students.
The university also has various societies for students to experience cultural exposure and interact with students coming from various countries across the globe. Additionally, there is also a sports and fitness complex for students.
Odessa National Medical University is a part of many international organizations such as the International Association of Medical Universities, which ensures great employment opportunities for students after the completion of the MBBS program.
Accommodation and food facility for the students is available within the University campus. Rooms are fully-decorated with furniture, beddings and other basic amenities. The campus is totally secured under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Hostels are surrounded by a green belt for sports activities, student cafeteria, reading rooms, and gyms, etc.
